December 13, 2021 City Council Meeting comments: Mayor Barber stated there are three options: either make a hire, reject all of the internal candidates or include them in a national search. A motion was made with a first and second and roll call vote. The motion was to open the application process to any internal candidates and close that process by the end of December. And by January 30, 2022, determine if the council wishes to make a hire from an internal candidate or reject any and all internal candidates, or include any candidates in a broad search that would be facilitated by the search firm or a search firm.

January 10, 2022 City Council Meeting comments: Mayor Barber stated at our last meeting we talked about the fact that we are moving ahead with our search for our replacement city manager. And over the Christmas holidays I got a lot of good feedback from individual Councilors really strongly encouraging us to retain a highly qualified search firm to do a broad search including any individual internal candidates that we have here. And we do have one. And before you is the proposal from Jensen Strategies, I think you saw that over a month ago and I'm recommending that we retain Eric Jensen and his team. They are very competent. They've done searches in Warrenton; they've done searches in Cannon Beach. They are just winding up one in East Portland. And based on the references that I've checked they are very competent and will do an excellent search. The big question was can they do it competently within the timeframe that we have to be done by the end of June. And he's assured me that he can. He needs 18 weeks basically, that would be well within the timeframe. I'm going to make a motion that we enter into a contract with Jensen strategies to guide us through a comprehensive search for our new city manager, with a second from Councilor Montero; carried unanimously. January 24, 2022 City Council Meeting comments: Mayor Barber stated we have a contract before us, that, we basically have to approve. It just needs to be Council action to approve the, recruitment for our city manager. To sign that contract. I'll entertain a motion to approve the contract with Jensen and Associates. Council President Wright so moved, with a second from Councilor Montero; carried unanimously. (Wright/Montero)

February 8, 2022 The City of Seaside in a survey asked for community input on what skills, experience, and other attributes that are important for the successful candidate. As a community member, your opinion provided an important perspective to develop the position profile and the recruitment materials. The survey was completed February 21, 2022. 

February 16, 2022 The City of Seaside invited community members to share the attributes and experience they hope to see in the next City Manager at a facilitated virtual meeting.  The session was conducted online via Zoom by recruitment representatives starting at 6:00pm.
